Georges River Watchers

Georges River Watchers

Since 2005, the Georges River Watchers, in partnership with Kogarah City Council and Sydney Water’s Streamwatch program, have assessed the environmental health of the Georges River through water quality monitoring. The involvement of volunteers allows greater monitoring and assessment of water quality changes throughout the local environment whilst educating community members on environmental issues.

Monitoring Sites

The 8 sample sites have been selected to deliver an accurate measurement of the overall catchment water quality while ensuring the health and safety of our volunteers is not compromised. The sites are marked below, and are separated into two groups associated with sampling events.

 Sampling Roster 2016

Sample groups A and B are sampled alternate months, thus allowing each site to be sampled every two months. Sampling will be on the 3rd Sunday of each month excluding December and January.

Samples are collected at the allocated sites by volunteers. The Georges River Watchers subsequently meet as a group at the sites marked with an asterisk at 9.30am to perform the monitoring. Meeting spots will be at an undercover shelter in each reserve and all areas have toilets and running water facilities. For more information please call Council’s Catchment Management Officer on 9330 9459 or simply turn up on any of the Sundays listed.
