Join the Library

When you apply to join the Library you must agree to the terms of the Library Membership Policy. Please read the terms of the Library Use and Membership Policy.

Important terms of the Membership Policy to be aware of:

  • When you join online you will receive a temporary membership.
  • To complete your membership application you need to come to the Library to show your NSW driver’s licence or other proof of your identity and address.
  • A parent or guardian must accompany children under 16 years of age to the Library to authorise their child’s membership application or complete the Authorisation of Library Membership Application by Parent/Guardian form.

Conditions of Use

The Library is a public space that is shared by the whole community. Visitors to the Library must always:

  • care for the collections, equipment and furniture they use
  • respect other Library users
  • comply with the directions of Library staff

Responsibilities of Library Members

Library members are responsible for their Library card and the items borrowed with their card.  Members must:

  • Have their Library card with them when they use the Library
  • Report lost Library cards immediately
  • Report damage to Library items
  • Promptly pay fines for borrowed items that are overdue, lost or damaged
  • Notify the Library of change of address

Computer use

Computers and WIFI are provided free of charge, subject to the terms of the Library Public Computer Devices and WIFI Internet Policy.

The Library’s Internet computers and WIFI must not be used for any illegal or criminal purposes or for any purposes that are likely to cause offense. Accessing sexually explicit material is prohibited.

Child supervision

Children under 16 years of age are allowed to use the Library, subject to the terms of the Library Children’s Policy.

Library staff do not supervise children in the Library. A parent or guardian is always responsible for the supervision and safety of their child.


The Library operates according the terms of the Library Act NSW 1939 and the Library Regulation NSW 2010.

Kogarah Library complies with the information protection principles contained in the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act (PPIPA) 1998
