Kogarah City Council is committed to supporting a safe and comfortable environment for all residents and visitors to the Kogarah local government area (LGA).
The Kogarah Safety and Crime Prevention Plan was first endorsed by Council in December 2005 and was reviewed and updated in 2007. A Community Safety Working Party, with representatives from Council, police, local businesses, community services and residents oversaw the development of the plan, which included extensive community consultation and public exhibition of the plan for 28 days.
The aim of the plan is to not only reduce crime and promote safety, but also to increase feelings of safety and security for all people in Kogarah. The plan also seeks to promote a whole of community response to community safety and crime prevention and, in line with this, aims to forge partnerships with residents, police, government, the community sector and business, to develop and deliver actions to make Kogarah a safer place.
The Safety and Crime Prevention Plan will play a key role in establishing the direction of Council's community safety programs and assist Council in determining the effective allocation of resources.
