Dog Friendly Parks

leash free

Council provides bins and bags in most parks for the easy disposal of dog faeces. It is an offence not to pick up your dog's faeces in public places. The Companion Animals Act requires the owner or person in charge of the animal to remove the faeces immediately and dispose of it in a provided rubbish receptacle.

The Companion Animals Act also requires dogs in a public place to be under the effective control of a competent person by means of an adequate chain, cord or leash. If the dog is not under effective control, the owner or person in charge of the animal has committed an offence and may be fined $110.

The former Kogarah City Council Local Government Area has a number of leash free parks that are exempt from this requirement. The parks that are part of this program are listed below and in our Pet Friendly Parks Exercise Areas Brochure.
