Translating & Interpreting Service (TIS) Phone: 13 14 50

The Translating & Interpreting Service (TIS) is available for people who do not speak English and for English speakers needing to communicate with them. TIS has services in over 75 different languages and dialects and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is accessible from anywhere in Australia for the cost of a local call.

Council has trained all customer service staff and council officers dealing directly with the public in how to use the Translating & Interpreting Service (TIS).  Residents are encouraged to use this service to ensure that their needs are fully understood and met.  You can contact the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) on 13 14 50 and ask them to contact Council on (02) 9330 9400 on your behalf. The interpreter service will coordinate a three-way telephone conversation, where Council Customer Service Officers will be able to provide assistance through the interpreter.

Language Aide Officers

Council also has accredited Language Aide Officers on staff. These officers are available during working hours to provide basic assistance with communication in a community language and English between a Council staff member and resident during either a face-to-face or telephone inquiry, regarding simple and general Council matters.

Chinese Liaison Officer      

Council has employed Ms Jane Lin as Chinese Liaison Officer. Her role in Council is to assist Chinese residents with their inquiries regarding Council matters such as rates, waste, and community services etc. Jane will also assist in the translation of Council's information materials. Jane will be available for public inquiries on Fridays between 9am and 5pm at the Customer Service Centre or by phone on 9330 9420.  A number of Council's information leaflets have Chinese Translations
